Why RexWall Flooring Systems?

Currently the majority of container floors are made from a hardwood known as Apitong plywood. Apitong is a rare wood that grows in the tropical forests of South-East Asia. The strongest Apitong comes from the oldest trees which take tens of years to mature. Because of its rarity, the price of Apitong can fluctuate considerably as the supply continues to be depleted.

Also of major concern is the fact that marine shipping containers are the number one mode of transportation worldwide, and therefore it is no surprise that the cargo in a container can routinely alternate from hazardous chemicals to food products. In fact, certain food products are often  shipped in bulk and placed directly on container floors. Therefore, contamination of wood floors is inevitable due to order and residue absorption.

In addition to concerns relating to wood pricing and contamination, the container industry has become increasingly cognizant of their collective role in world deforestation for the manufacture of container floors. It is estimated that it takes ten mature trees to produce one twenty-foot container floor. For the above reasons, the container industry seeks a viable alternative to wood floors.
